Thirsty

One of my oldest friends recently shared this short film she helped make a few years back. There could be any number of existential takes on its meaning. It would make a great Public Service Announcement in our drought-stricken state, to be sure. But to me it speaks of a deeper thirst, a bleaker dryness. I wonder what it says to you.

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37-39)

  1. What struck me was the two big doors. One the heavy steel rusted one where the young man looked at and dropped his back pack. It is as if he was running from what he knew was behind the door. And in running away, all he saw was the result of the running in all the other people locked in their stares and despair. The one door he stopped at was clean and presenting, not intimidating, but he just looked at in and sat down. For me it speaks of the despair the world offers and the lack of hope it speaks into the lives of people. To the point, they feel there is no way they can find enough hope to cure their despair, so they just sit down and wait. The closed wooden door also speaks to the church, that our doors should be open so we can go out and those wandering by can look in and see hope. Too often we the church close our doors to keep out the world, but in fact we should have our doors swung open wide for the gates of hell will not withstand, thus the large steel door, rusted and closed tight. Just my humble observations. In His Grace! Pdoug
