So In My Head

music for anyone who spends way too much time there

“So In My Head” is that moment when your inner voice stops being something distant and quiet, and you finally give it space. Sophia Streams captures this through vibrant, memorable melodies and lyrics that sink deeper than they seem at first glance. There’s no rush or need to keep up with the world in her music. It’s a place where you can pause and realize that self-expression isn’t a whim, but something personal and essential.—VOXWAVE Magazine

Heather first met Anna Gruen at The Songwriter Initiative retreat in 2022. Two years later, on a field trip to the Getty Museum, Heather asked Anna if she’d produce a song she’d written with their friend, Colby Key, called Chasing the Second Hand—and do it in an 80s Pop style. Anna said, “I LOVE 80s pop! I’m in!” Gruen releases her own production work as The Sandbox Project.

Colby Key started writing songs as a young boy in Texas, sitting cross-legged on his bed and playing guitar til his fingers bled. He came into The Songwriter Initiative in 2023 at 21 years old. He and Heather quickly formed a writing partnership on the side. Chasing the Second Hand was born out of their shared experiences of restless minds and peripatetic thoughts.

“In ‘So In My Head’ there stands an EP where a wild menagerie of ideas comes together to make something dynamic and vibrant.”—Two Story Melody

Heather & Hannah Rost were struggling to make a song work when Heather suddenly recalled a phrase that she’d had in her pocket for 20 years. “Does the idea of Dioramas in the Rain mean anything to you?” Hannah said, “Omigosh! That’s it! Let’s write that!” Adam Lamb—their uber gifted friend—loved the song so much he agreed to produce it. This is Hannah’s first release.

Heather, Colby, and Nick Taylor were thrown together for a small songwriting “warm up” at an Airbnb in AZ. Mind Like An Airbnb was the result. Determined for this funny, wise, perfect little bar tune to find it’s way in the world, Heather actually built the whole EP with this song as the centerpiece, with Nick on lead vocals and guitar, Colby bringing in the sweet harmonies, and Adam capturing that great bar gig sound. “This project finds inspiration in the deepest corners of the psyche, transforming them into something beautiful and soulful, filling every beat with love to overcome the darkness and fears. Embracing ideas of self-reflection, introspection, and inner chaos, ‘So In My Head’ whispers in your ear, both a warning and a promise of forgiveness. And you know, it’s deeply personal, something not every artist dares to explore this deeply.” —SOUNDVILLE

Heather & Blake Flattley have connected thru music for a decade—well before Heather could write or play a single note. She was one of his first sponsors ($20!) when she met him in 2014 fundraising for an EP. Heather wrote the lyrics and the compositional vibe for Helter Skelter Man in May. The next day she heard Blake singing at an event and realized, “I think this song is for you,” Blake listened to her riff a verse. “I think it is too.”

Collaboration, connection, and shared experience are vital to LA-based songwriter and producer Sophia Streams. So In My Head is a collaborative concept EP composed and organized by Heather Choate Davis — aka Sophia Streams — featuring five sonically diverse tracks, working alongside nine singers, writers and producers. The EP is about spending time trapped in your own thoughts, doubt, and self-love. Ranging sonically from 80’s pop to light folk to an elegant piano ballad, the EP’s seemingly random assortment of tracks all come together under one theme. —MusicMecca

Aaron Provisor is an accomplished jazz player/composer who grew up around the corner from Heather in Mar Vista. She brought him together with Madison Youch for the song Boomerang (written by HCD & Ben Lange). The two had such great jazz shorthand in the room, Heather asked Aaron to help her rework a song called River of Love so they could bring it to life in that classic piano lounge style. This is Madison’s first solo release.

“This EP expresses the shared human experience of not feeling like enough. There is a chasing that never ends, a comparison that never stops, constant reminders that we are not perfect…there is also a clear momentary, short-term reality being evoked. The focus on the second hand. The Airbnb concept of a short stay. The fragile dioramas. That it ends basking in a river, which is both ever-changing, but also steady and not easy to move, is profound.”—Andrew Jones, Author, Pastor
